ICONI is the Russian academic journal of a humanitarian profile. Its title “Iskusstvo. Kultura. Obrazovanie. Nauchnye issledovaniya” [“Art. Culture. Education. Scholarly Research”] reflects the direction of its content and its primary goal – publication of interdisciplinary research in the field of humanities. The priorities in forming the content are the theory and practice of the interaction of arts, information about educational activities, the dissemination of results of research by Russian scholars’ works in a broad geographical and international space.

The strategy of integrating academic knowledge disseminated by scholars from different countries, including art criticism research, into a wide cultural context is perceived by us to be of primary importance.

The journal is published by a professional editorial board with endowed more than ten years of experience in publishing the journal Music Scholarship / Problemy Muzykal'noj Nauki, which is included in the list of peer reviewed periodicals recommended by the Higher Attestation Commission, the first quartile of the Scopus database and the Web of Science Core Collection (ESCI). The international standards for manuscripts, complied with by the editors, and the regulations of formatting data for modern scientometric databases make it possible for scholars and institutions of higher education to improve constantly their professional ratings and citation indices. The journal’s rubrics provide the opportunity for both eminent and young researchers from Russia and other countries to become participants of this scholarly project. The sections “Philosophy and Art Studies”, “Music and Painting”, “Ethnomusicology”, “The Art of the Theatre”, “Book Graphics”, “Creative Workshop for Pedagogy” and others elucidate the issues of synthesis and interdisciplinary interaction and present new knowledge about the world, the human being, education and culture. The journal pays special attention to contemporary arts of music, painting, theater, cinema, book design and photography. By presenting interviews with various artists and demonstrating their works, the journal acquaints the readers with brilliant and outstanding phenomena in the various arts. The journal ICONI has been formed within the domain of scholarship engaged in institutions of higher education with its diverse forms of innovational activities, the close proximity of theory to practice, education, interdisciplinary contacts and connections with young people. The latter is also meant to become a distinctive feature of the edition, which not only publishes academic articles, concerning issues of humanitarian research but also opens a wide tribune to some of the celebrated professors (cycles of authorial courses), reformers among pedagogues (innovational programs and methodological elaborations), students and graduate students - participants and winners of competitions of scholarly and methodological works.

ICONI is a journal of free and open access. Its unified editorial board and editorial staff is comprised of leading scholars from Russia and other countries.

The edition is carried out through the means of combined financial contributions and individual donations by authors. The journal is published in print and electronic versions. The latter makes possible to demonstrate audio and video materials, as well as to share cultural information on our website.
